Along with the wide range of measures of support from HMRC, a reminder about the option to defer your payment on accounts for 2019 to 2020 tax year.

You’ll have the option to defer your second payment on account if you’re registered in the UK for self-assessment and finding it difficult to make your second payment on account due to impact of Covid-19 which is due on 31 July 2020.

HMRC will not apply any penalties or charges for this as long as any deferred payment on accounts is paid before 31st January 2021. What’s more, if you wish to derfer you don’t need to tell HMRC and defering will not stop you being able to claim for other Covid-19 support from HMRC.

However, if you already have a ‘pay in installments’ plan agreement with HMRC for overdue tax then you will need to contact HMRC if you want to include your second payment on account in that arrangement.

As always if you’re experiencing financial difficulties you can contact HMRC’s Time to Pay Service.
