It’s certainly been a rather difficult year for many businesses, but now may be the time for you to focus on growth again. The Government is offering a package of financial support for businesses who create new job placements for young people currently on Universal Credit. This could be the perfect way for you to slowly get into expanding with a safety net provided by the government.

Who is it for?

This is for businesses offering a new job placement for a young person aged between 16 and 24 who is currently on Universal Credit and therefore potentially are most at risk of long-term unemployment.

What will the Government cover?

  • 100% of the National Minimum Wage (or the National Living Wage depending on the age of the participant) for 25 hours per week for a total of 6 months.
  • associated employer National Insurance contributions
  • employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions

How to apply?

Employers of all sizes can apply and you can spread the start date up until the end of December 2021. It’s how you apply that varies depending on numbers. In a nutshell, the scheme’s direct application route is for companies looking to take on at least 30 new staff. However, you can use a local gateway provider to make an application on your behalf if you have between 1 and 29 positions available.

Local places that can help you with your application include Devon and Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, Devon & Cornwall Training Providers Network Ltd, Real Ideas Organisation CIC as well as your local councils through Skills Launchpad initiative.
